PC to Mac: HELP ME!

My Husband is Awesome!!

Last week, he came home for lunch, handed me a box and said, "Happy Mother's Day, Birthday, and Anniversary!" *May is a big month around here.*

I was shocked!!!  still shocked.

Graham is a great gift-giver, but I never expected a gift like this.  My PC has been fussy and giving me some issues for a while now, but I didn't even consider the possibility of a new computer.
Like a lot of folks, I've mastered the PC/Windows and it's ingrained in my brain.  That being said, I am totally lost on my new Mac.  I'm told how wonderful they are, but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  I thought having an iPhone and iPad would help me along, but the laptop is much different.  I have my Sony Viao sitting on my desk and I go back and forth to from my PC to the Mac.  Like everyone, I want EFFICIENCY!!  Right now, it's easier for me to do every day tasks on my PC.  How am I ever going to get the hang of this?

I have subscribed to several channels on YouTube devoted to helping people like me.  So far, so good.

My biggest questions involve iPhoto, photo uploading, photos in general.  What are the best photo editing programs for Mac?  I've been using PSElements for several years and I was just starting to feel comfortable with the use of actions and simple photo editing tasks.  I've got to learn all over again! Hear me out...I'm not complaining!!  I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, but I've got to set aside some time to learn...TIME! Time. time.

**Just a little tid-bit:  Graham purchased an external hard drive and I transferred over 45,000 pics and about 2 documents (no wonder my PC was acting up).  I know, I know! I have a small problem!  I had them perfectly organized into folders and sub-folders and they looked so nice and neat in my picture file on my PC.  Now what?

And for all of you pro-Mac people that are rolling your eyes right now...get over yourself!  *I say that with love...and a little sarcasm...and a lot of jealousy that you've got this machine mastered!

What tips/tricks would you share with me to make my life a little easier?  I'd love some input and help.

  1. Oh, I have an Ipad and an IPhone but know nothing about a MAC but I want to. I really want my next computer to be a MAC but it really scares me. Talk about an "old dog." Girl, I'm ancient and not sure my feeble brain could make the transition. Good luck!!!

Oooh so exciting! Sorry, I'm a PC girl still, so no tips here, but I know who to come to if I ever make the switch :)

  3. I was gifted a Mac this past Christmas... and yes, I'm still learning how to use it as well! Sometimes, I accidentally do something really cool with it and then have to figure out how to undo it! Ha! I must say, they are incredible machines... but so far I'm still mastering the basics like email, uploading photos and such. Can't wait to come back and read any more tips you receive, and I'll have to search Youtube for some tricks as well! Have fun!
