Merry Christmas Home Tour | Joy's Room

Y'all, I've been out of pocket for the past few weeks.  My family got a terrible stomach virus and we have been trying to get well for over a week.  We are on the mend and I'm back to blogging just in time for all of blogland's Christmas home tours.  I am excited to take you on a tour of my home all decked out for the "most wonderful time of the year"!!!

Welcome to my MERRY CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR.  Over the course of the week, I'll be taking you on a little tour around our home all decorated for Christmas!

First stop:  Joy Baby's room
There are no shortage of JOY ornaments at Christmas!
This year, AG and Edy have a new Christmas tree so Joy inherited their old tree, but we added some ornaments special to our precious baby girl.

Mamaw's snowman fits in perfectly.

Another one of Mamaw's ornaments that I just love!!!

my joy.

gutsy girl loves to stand up in her rocking chair

Come back tomorrow for more home tour fun.
*Bloggers, I want to see your homes decorated for Christmas.  Send me a link to your Christmas decor in the comment section!!!

We Do the Elf Thing *gasp*

I feel as if we live in an overly critical day and age.  Here we are trying to be the best parents we can be and sometimes our convictions on parenting come across judgmental towards others.  Maybe it's just my perception, but I feel particularly bombarded by it this time of year.

Case in point:

The other night, I was with some of my CC moms and we were chatting.  A question was posed, "Do y'all do the elf thing?"  The first thing out of my mouth, "Yes, but let me explain."  WHY? Why, was that my first response?  Later I said, "I mean, he doesn't report to Santa or anything.  It's just for fun."  To which one of the moms piped up and said, "Ours reports to Santa."  Good for her, I thought.

And so it goes.

I think hyper-critical parenting is all heightened by social media.  The world gets to see little snippets of our lives and that's it.  With one little picture on Instagram, tweet, or status update, we make snap judgments.  We all do it.

So here it is, even though I don't need to explain...but because I do....

We do Santa--on our terms (click HERE if interested). We do the elf--on our terms.  We give gifts at Christmas, and birthdays, and Valentines, and Halloween, and as often as we can.  Jesus gives us gracious gifts daily of which we don't deserve! And those gifts we give--my kids tire of them eventually.  I think that's a good lesson on how things of this world pass away. ;)

Oh...and my baby sleeps on her stomach! Gasp!

After Thanksgiving our elf, Bernard, will jump back up on the shelf and I will have more ideas coming your way.  For now, here are some of Bernard's past shenanigans...

I hate giving excuses, but it is what it is.... I have been so busy lately that blogging has been on the back-burner.  And by blogging I mean, posting on my blog AND reading updates on my favorite blogs.  I know things will slow down soon, but right now things are just B-U-S-Y.  We have one more week of Classical Conversations for the year and I am wrapping up a lot of photo edits for my new business (plus more sessions over Thanksgiving), and then all of the Christmas festivities will begin and it'll be a whole new kind of busy!  Thank y'all for your patience and I look forward to sharing a few posts in the coming days.  Stick around!
Did y'all get to check out the Let's Gather Blog Hop that Amanda @ Cultivate Create hosted?  It was packed full of fall inspiration, freebies, and recipes.  Click HERE to check out my post and hop around to the other blogs on the tour.
